The Last Witch of Scotland
Philip Paris
I listened to this book on Audible and it was excellent. The Scottish accents for both Jack and Aila totally immersed me in the Scottish Highlands on my daily drive to work. Their stories were crafted with detail and care and the characters are completely lovable. Their story is based on the historical record about the last person to be legally executed for witchcraft in Scotland & Britain, Janet Horne.
The Secret Garden
Frances Hodgson Burnett
Yes, this book was written a long time ago and not everything in it ages well. That said, the secret garden is still a gem. It was my wife’s favorite book as a young girl. I reread it every couple of years to remind myself. This book is powerful because of a simple idea. Everyone wants a secret garden. A place to hide from prying eyes. A place to grow. A place where magic is possible.
Siddhartha
Herman Hesse
This book was my favorite growing up. I reread it every couple of years to remind myself. Siddhartha is about seeking knowledge and finding it after a lifetime of searching. One of the many lessons of Siddhartha is that the journey towards wisdom holds the key to finding it.
