Greg Buhrman
Greg Buhrman is a historical storyteller, independent publisher and protein biochemist based in North Carolina. Through Howard Forge Press, he brings the past to life through historical fiction, family history, and carefully researched educational resources.
His historical fiction grew from his own exploration of the Howard family story, following generations of one family through war, revolution, love, loss, and the founding of America. His books include William and Hannah: Iron and Salt and Charles and Anne: Wind and Compass, part of the A Howard Family Story series.
Howard Forge Press has since grown beyond Greg’s own books to support independent authors, explore history and genealogy, and develop resources designed to make great books more accessible to readers.
Stories Forged from History
Howard Forge Press began with a simple idea: some of the best stories are already hiding in history. What started as an effort to uncover the lives of my own ancestors became a series of historical novels built around real people, real places, and the events that shaped their lives.
The goal is to use storytelling to make the people who lived it feel human again by examining their choices, relationships, struggles, and hopes, while remaining grounded in the historical record.
Why I Write These Stories
The Howard family stories began with genealogy, but somewhere along the way the names, dates, and places stopped feeling like entries in a family tree. I wanted to understand who these people were, what their world looked like, and how the choices they made carried forward through generations.
That journey eventually became A Howard Family Story. If you’d like to know more about where the books came from and why I decided to write them, I shared that story on the Howard Forge Press blog.
More Than a Publishing Imprint
Howard Forge Press began as a home for my own historical fiction, but it has grown into something broader, a place to explore history and family stories, discover independent authors, share books worth reading, and develop tools that help make literature more accessible.
At the center of all of it is the same idea that started the journey: stories are worth preserving, discovering, and sharing.
